Whitewater & Wonder: A Weekend to Remember

We set out with bags and snacks in hand,

To a cabin tucked in West Virginia’s land.

With laughter and games, our crew found its beat,

A second family, not just friends on retreat.

Shabbat began with candles and prayer,

Chicken and rice, and the warmth of care.

We passed the wine, we shared our light,

A moment of peace, a sacred night.

From waterfalls along the rail trail’s bend,

To hikes with views that seemed to never end.

Endless Wall showed us boats from afar,

Scenery so stunning, it raised the bar.

The river rushed and carried our cheer,

As whitewater thrills brought courage and fear.

We paddled in sync, we shouted in pride,

With me grinning the whole damn ride.

We played “Dope or Nope” and “Scout” with flair,

Shared inside jokes floating through the air.

Tried Jackbox games that sparked a roar,

With Fibbage and Quiplash keeping score.

Some cooked, some cleaned, some DJ’d the night,

While others grabbed ice cream in pure delight.

Yoga mats in the game room, the yogis moved slow,

Restorative poses in a quiet, centered flow.

We watched movies, played pool, soaked in the tub,

Took silly pics and gave each other love.

From the state capitol’s golden dome to wild ridge views,

We soaked in life, nature, and every good news.

Now it’s over and I’m still wide awake,

Heart full of memories I didn’t have to fake.

And me? I’ll keep writing, reflecting, and sharing the ride,

Because stories like these are the best kind to guide.
